The proposed improvement would signalize the intersection and provide dual southbound left turn lanes on SR 515/ SR 5. The southbound through movement would operate as continuously green while the northbound approach and southbound left movement would operate as protected only. The proposed dual southbound left turn lanes would provide additional capacity and reduce queue spillback for the movement's high vehicle volumes. Additionally, the proposed signal would improve overall intersection delays by providing dedicated gaps for the heavy southbound left turning volumes. The additional left turn lane would have a storage length of approximately 250’ and will require restriping into the existing hatched median. The left turn improvements would provide safety benefits by protecting the conflict between heavy southbound left-turn movement and high-speed northbound traffic.
