The project involves the reconstruction of a 5.5-mile (8.85km) segment of the Interstate Highway 75 (I-75), located in Oakland County, in the south-east of Michigan, a state in the Midwestern region of the USA, under a design-build-finance-maintain (DBFM) contract. This segment is located north of 13 Mile Road to north of 8 Mile Road in the Cities of Madison Heights, Royal Oak, Hazel Park, Oakland County. The project also involves ​modernising the freeway segment and improving 28 bridges along the route, as well as a safety upgrade that separates traffic entering northbound I-75 from I-696, and northbound I-75 traffic exiting at 11 Mile Road. Furthermore, the construction of a 14-foot diameter drainage tunnel between M102 and 12 Mile Road to separate and meter freeway water from the local storm system to mitigate future flooding concerns. Segment 3 is the final piece of the almost 18 mile (29 km) MDOT I-75 Modernization Program.
