The project is proposing to widen 33 miles of I-85 from two to three lanes through Harris, Troup, and Meriwether counties, as well as 0.55 mi of widening in Chambers County, AL. The widening will occur along the inside shoulder and will reduce the overall median widths. The project will require the widening or replacement of 30 mainline bridges along the corridor to accommodate the additional travel lane in each direction. The project will not alter the existing vertical profile along the corridor. The inside shoulders and medians will be replaced according to current GDOT policy, and the existing travel lanes and outside shoulders will be resurfaced.
