Over the next few decades, both the Netherlands and Flanders will have the considerable task of replacing and reinstalling wastewater facilities in outlying areas. Innovative, sustainable applications are therefore being sought on both sides of the border. No commercial solutions are available, so the experimental development, testing, monitoring and demonstrating of innovative wastewater facilities at various location types is important. The solutions focus on water recovery and saving and recovering raw materials. One point for attention here is the industrial applicability of the facilities being developed in order to ensure the feasibility of the future large-scale roll-out of developed applications. I-QUA is working on various test cases. The reuse of water will be explored in a car wash in Nerhoven (NL), with the installation of decentralised purification and the waste water being made suitable for commercial reuse. In addition, a mobile water treatment facility is being developed using water-plant purification suitable for events at which temporary mobile toilets, eateries and showers are used. Often, the water is simply discharged into surface water or flows to a sewage plant. I-QUA attempts to optimally streamline the entire chain of water supply, discharge and purification into a total concept. At the HVCH Heesch club football club sport complex, efforts are being made to recover raw materials, and wastewater flows are being fully separated so that urine, for example, can be processed into fertiliser.
