Description

Description

The urban areas in Continental Southern Europe are particular vulnerable regions to the accelerating impacts of climate change, due to specific geographic, economic and social factors. Regions such as Toledo, Cáceres or Coimbra are 3 very representative examples. Some key factors that increase the vulnerability of these regions are the urban layout of their historical areas, along with the socioeconomic diversity of the population and diversity in building types, construction methods, regulatory and aesthetic limitations of urban renewal and regeneration actions. One of the most pressing needs for these regions is to have solutions that can guide all the agents involved in the adaptation and climate resilience of these cities solutions that serve as blueprints for assessing climate risks and implementing targeted adaptation strategies. I-LiBIM project aims to enhance the climate resilience and adaptation capacity of Iberian urban areas, with a particular focus on heritage and vulnerable sites offering tools that enable the definition and implementation of solutions adapted to the specific needs of each area of action, its buildings and its citizens, who will be the main stakeholders of the project. This will be achieved largely thanks to the set-up ot urban living labs (I-LiBIM Labs) as an essential part of the project. By developing BIM-based tool the project will provide a detailed and predictive modelling with the necessary resources to implement effective solutions ensuring the long-term sustainability of urban sensitive areas of the Iberian Peninsula, while respecting heritage preservation and ensuring that interventions and solutions are accessible to all socio-economic groups. Besides new construction solutions will be developed including criteria of circularity, industrialization and nature-based materials. I-LiBIM will align its outputs with the EU's climate adaptation goals, for scalability, as a model for future urban adaptation initiatives across Europe
