This proposal addresses the area of dissemination and communication of official statistics, for projects to be funded under the European Statistical Programme. More specifically it describes the continued implementation of Iceland´s participation in the European Statistical Competition (IS-ESC, see also: www.greindubetur.is). The overall objective of this action is to increase information literacy by promoting curiosity and interest in statistics among secondary students. We do this by encouraging teachers who teach a diverse range of subjects to use data from Statistics Iceland to explore and understand various societal topics. By doing so we will continue to frame this project not as a statistical subject, but as a tool for students to become literate on information in various subjects focusing on the social context. We ensure the sustainability of the action by continue to work with a network of shareholders, including Iceland´s Prime Minister's Office and The Educational Research Institute. Thus, we hope that the topics of the IS-ESC will be included in The National Curriculum Guide for Compulsory and Upper Secondary Schools, and used as an educational material for those age groups.
