Description
Description | This proposal focuses on the dissemination and communication of official statistics, aligning with projects eligible for funding under the European Statistical Programme. More specifically, this proposal outlines the continued implementation of Iceland´s participation in the European Statistical Competition (IS-ESC) by maintaining the national competition and strengthening the collaboration platform between Statistics Iceland and Secondary School teachers to promote the use of official statistics in teaching (see our website: www.greindubetur.is) for the school year of 2025-2026. The primary objective of this initiative is to enhance data- and information literacy by fostering curiosity and enthusiasm for statistics among secondary school students. This goal is achieved by encouraging teachers from various subject areas to integrate data from Statistics Iceland into their lessons, using it to explore and analyze societal issues. By positioning this competition not as a purely statistical exercise but as a tool for developing data – and information literacy across multiple disciplines, we emphasize its relevance within a broader social context. To ensure the long-term sustainability of the initiative, we continue to collaborate with a network of key stakeholders. As a result, we expect that the themes covered in IS-ESC will serve as valuable educational resources, supporting learning in these age groups and contributing to the integration of statistical literacy into the National Curriculum Guide for Compulsory and Upper Secondary Schools. |
