Idavang currently has 8 large scale pig production facilities in Lithuania and one in Russia's Leningrad Oblast. The proposed project is to expand the current production capacity with additional, mainly greenfield, pig production facilities near Pskov in Western Russia. While all the current large scale pig production facilities are relying on feed stock from the commodity market, and manure handling through farmers off-take contracts, the Pskov facility will have its own crop production farm with sustainable internal balance in manure production and fertilizer needs for the crop production. The new crop farm and pig production facility is based on re-farming of previously idle / brackish farmland that has not been under commercial production since the cease of the Soviet farms in early 1990ies, and the construction of a 3,450 sow pig production facility for production of 98,000 slaughter pigs per year in the midst of these fields, hereby establishing a sustainable balance between manure produced by the pigs and the ammonia and phosphate fertilizer needs of the land farmed for crop production. The crop farm has a total of 4,000 ha of land available of which 3,500 ha will be used for the production of crops (mainly spring and winter crops of barley and wheat) for the pig farm feed mill. The new pig production consist of physically separated sections (sows w/piglet production section, small (weaner) pig section, finisher section for pigs getting ready for slaughtering, and a boar section for sperm production), as well as a feed mill and systems for manure handling in sealed lagoons capable of holding the manure for twice yearly application as fertilizer on the crop fields. The project does not include any slaughtering facility, as all Idavang's farms sell live pigs to the slaughter houses in Lithuania and the Leningrad Oblast of Russia. The primary market for the meat is the local markets in Lithuania and North West Region of Russia.
