Description

Description

"Launched in 1987, Il Cinema Ritrovato is the first festival in the world to focus exclusively on the work that film archives and restoration laboratories carry out to preserve, promote and disseminate film heritage. At the heart of Il Cinema Ritrovato lies an outstanding curation to search for the best possible films, closely linked to the collective viewing pleasure. Built over 39 years, each edition of the festival aims at consolidating our commitment to our most loyal cinephile public, in 2024 5,670 accredited guests from Italy and from 78 countries. The festival combines an outstanding cultural offer to a large audience and at the same time, a space for professionals from the film heritage community to exchange ideas and best practices. This unique synergy benefits the European audio-visual sector at large by innovating the approach to film heritage: vector of audience development and fuel for the contemporary audio-visual creation. Our ""Paradise for Cinephiles"" also showcases the annual work of Cineteca di Bologna and its laboratory L'Immagine Ritrovata to (re)discover and restore international films. In close collaboration with the best institutions worldwide working on film heritage, we renew each year the presentation of rare and precious films. In 2024, we have further consolidated and enlarged the vast and diverse film-loving community of the festival, with a particular focus on young audiences through interactive engagement and education on cinema history. We reached a record-breaking 160,000 spectators in Bologna and 48,648 during the year in Italy and around the world. We always paid particular attention to the film education for kids and the works of female directors, often at the margin of the film heritage studies. In 2024, we have screened 512 carefully selected films and invited 97 prominent professionals and personalities of the international audio-visual sector (among which Wim Wenders, Alice Rorhwacher, Damien Chazelle, Alexander Payne)."
