The Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) awarded two major transmission projects to a consortium including Ameren Transmission Company of Illinois, GridLiance Heartland, Dairyland Power Cooperative, and the Illinois Municipal Electric Agency. The projects will form part of a new 765-kilovolt transmission backbone to strengthen the Midwest power grid. The Sub T-Iowa/Illinois State Line-Woodford County project includes about 149 miles of new 765-kV lines linking Woodford County, the Iowa/Illinois state line, and the Sub T Substation in Iowa, estimated to cost $940 million. The Woodford County-Illinois/Indiana State Line project includes 88 miles of new 765-kV lines and a new 765/345-kV substation extending east from Woodford County toward the Illinois/Indiana state line, estimated to cost $718 million. Ownership is split among ATXI, GridLiance, Dairyland, and IMEA. Both projects are expected to enter service in 2034, subject to regulatory review and stakeholder engagement.
