This change threatens the funding for approximately 8,500 permanent-supportive housing beds, primarily impacting people with disabilities and severe mental illness. HUD's Continuum of Care program currently provides $182 million to Illinois, with Chicago and Cook County receiving almost $140 million. The new rules reduce the percentage of funds allocated to permanent housing from about 80% to a third or less, effectively cutting $85 million in spending power. |
