K5 Media Group is developing a software solution for film production that will significantly improve the quality and efficiency of the workflow in virtual movie studios: IlluminaTwin. Together with our cooperation partner ARRI, the most important manufacturer of film equipment, we believe that there is a market need and as a result potential. With our subscription based business model we estimate to generate a total revenue of EUR 3.6 million in year 6. Our innovative tool deals with digital twins for lighting situations in virtual production (VP). Most VPs take place in front of a large curved LED wall. In recent years VP, e.g. used in major productions like STAR WARS: The Mandalorian, has been gaining traction due to its increased cost efficiency and quality in production. The market size of VP was USD 2.10 billion in 2023, reaching 6.78 billion in 2030 (CAGR 18.2%). In a classic virtual studio, the mapping of the light works like a semi-transparent mirror: the light shines from the virtual backdrop into the real set, yet the light from the real set is not continued into the virtual set. With IlluminaTwin, the semi-transparent mirror becomes a window that transmits light in both directions in real time. Our hardware agnostic tool will capture real lighting conditions on a film set and recreate them in real time on the LED wall. IlluminaTwin will: 1) significantly enhance efficiency by streamlining expensive production workflows 2) increase the overall production quality 3) improve creative freedom for Directors of Photography (DoPs), Gaffers and the crew The aim is to offer VP studios a product that is of decisive strategic value in the market. To achieve this, K5 will establish a new division that can develop the software in a sustainable and service-oriented manner and guarantee its longevity.
