Description | Norwegian aluminium company Norsk Hydro ASA has decided to invest NOK 2.5 billion (USD 249m/EUR 214m) to build the Illvatn pumped storage power plant in Sogn, Luster municipality, Norway. The plant will generate 107 GWh per year by pumping water from the Fivlemyrane to the Illvatn reservoirs. The project includes construction of a new tunnel and a 13-kilometer power line from Fivlemyr to Sveinsoystolen, with 48 aluminium power towers. Construction is set to start in November 2025, with commissioning targeted for 2030. This is Hydro's largest hydropower development in over 20 years and supports its net-zero strategy. |
