Description
Description | After more than a decade, the Syrian conflict continues to lead to violence, instability and the displacement of people. The COVID-19 pandemic and the recent global impact of the Ukraine war have further exacerbated the situation, with profound effects on economic development and general stability throughout the region. The aim of the project is to create short-term employment opportunities for Syrian refugees and vulnerable Jordanians in host communities. At the same time, this is intended to achieve sustainable effects in the forestry and community infrastructure sectors (Outcome 1). In addition, the project aims to improve the prospects for longer-term employment and income of the target group (Outcome 2). The target region is the six northern and central governorates of Irbid, Mafraq, Jerash, Ajloun, Zarqa and Amman. The main measures include the creation of around 2,500 short-term jobs to support the national reforestation project and to improve public infrastructure in host communities. As part of the national reforestation program, the measures include landscaping, water conservation, terracing, growing seedlings, planting and protecting young plants. Simple infrastructure measures are being carried out in the host communities, such as building renovation, playgrounds, road construction, marketplaces, beautification measures and the like. In addition, market-oriented training is being offered to around 1,160 Syrian refugees and vulnerable Jordanians, and the establishment of small businesses is being promoted. To this end, the ILO uses existing networks with the private sector to tailor the offers to demand. |
