The Philippine Ports Authority awarded a 25-year concession to International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) on January 30th, 2024. ICTSI had submitted a proposal in 2019 for a $154m or Peso8.7bn plan to redevelop the strategical port. The facility will be renamed Visayas Container Terminal after ICTSI takes over. ICTSI will invest in dredging and deepening of the navigation channel to allow the direct entry of new generation, international vessels and purchase of modern quayside crane handling equipment.
