IMPACT OF EU NORMS ON POLICIES TOWARDS MIGRANTS AND WOMEN IN TÜRKİYE

The European Union (EU) has created a system of values and norms and incorporated them in its policies and institutional structure throughout its history. These values and norms are not only important for the welfare of EU citizens, but for third countries as well because the EU has used the method of norm expansion to influence the third countries that they are in strong dialogue with. One of these is Türkiye as since 1963 Ankara Association Agreement Türkiye is in a formal political and institutional relationship with the EU. Türkiye has created certain policies recently which have posed several challenges for women and migrants living in Türkiye. Since that gender equality, fighting against discrimination and protection of human rights are among these values and norms which are very much signified by the EU, the main aim of this project is to analyse how policies against migrants and women in Türkiye can be changed positively as a result of Türkiye’s intensive dialogue with the EU. For that dialogue to work there should be more awareness and closer co-operation between Türkiye and the EU. The project plans to create this awareness and closer o-operation through several activities such as lectures, workshops, publications and trainings.
