Implementation of the 2026 EU-LFS ad hoc subject: Digital platform employment

The 2026 LFS variables on ´digital platform employment´ responds to demand data describing complex situation of people who work through digital platforms. This action is grounded in Implementing Regulation (EU) 2024/2887 and the related explanatory notes made available by Eurostat. Main activity is data collection of ad hoc variables. This action will bring data concerning identification of respondents who have had experience with digital platform employment (DPE) in last 12 months, area of main DPE, frequency and amount of time, information on how significant is the income earned via DPE, type of motivation to do DPE, degree of independence expressed through ownership of decision-making rights in assigning a tasks, the possibility of rejecting a tasks/customers, defining the time and length of work on a task, and the degree of participation of the respondent or platform or client in pricing, level of social protection expressed in terms of access to health benefits in the event of illness or injury and their source in relation to DPE, other work or their absence and provide link to core variables by identifying DPE as the main, secondary or occasional job. Using common guidelines and submitted model questionnaire by Eurostat will be reached the mutual comparability and linkage of the output data. Even more, the methodology applied in the project will fully correspond to delivered instructions, variables and codes. The cognitive testing and pilot field tests at the beginning of the project will ensure further harmonisation with indicators that should have been surveyed.
