Implementation of the classification of environment purposes (CEP), evaluation of ecosystem services and estimation of quarterly greenhouse gas emission accounts

The European Green Deal, a priority for the Commission, aims to make the EU’s economy sustainable by addressing climate and environmental challenges. It introduces new transformative policies across all sectors and emphasizes a just, inclusive transition. In October 2021, the European Statistical System Committee endorsed an Action Plan on statistics to support the Green Deal's implementation. This project aims to implement the following three work packages to achieve the abovementioned goals: WP1 (Implementation of the classification of environmental purposes (CEP) Lithuania seeks to implement the CEP in European environmental monetary accounts under Annexes IV and V of the Regulation (EU) No 691/2011 and under the new Annex VIII for environmental subsidies and similar transfers (ESST) starting from the 2025 data collection. WP2 (Evaluation of the ecosystem services) State Data Agency will organize and implement the evaluation of ecosystem services for the year 2018 according to the Eurostat proposal for amending Regulation (EU) 691/2011 on European environmental accounts. The reporting year may vary depending on the availability of data sources. Data collection will be organized, implemented, collected data will be analysed, georeferenced and disseminated as experimental statistics. WP3 (Estimation of national quarterly greenhouse gas emission accounts) Eurostat’s estimates of quarterly greenhouse gas emissions build on the annual air emissions accounts (AEA) that Eurostat collects from European national statistical institutes. State Data Agency will estimate national quarterly greenhouse gas emission accounts in coherence with the EU methodology based on national data sources.
