Improve stormwater quality to rehabilitate Loafer’s Lake

Rehabilitation for Loafer’s Lake (north-east of Hurontario St and Sandalwood Parkway East) from stormwater quality improvements. The pilot project is initiated in Loafer’s Lake to address significant algae growth within the waterbody so as to mitigate stormwater quality issues before discharge into Etobicoke Creek. Loafer’s lake is a waterbody formed in an old quarry pit which now collects overland drainage from the surrounding developed areas. The overland drainage from developed areas is most likely the source of the water quality issues. The waterbody has a hydraulic control structure at the outlet of the waterbody that controls the discharge of the drainage entering the lake. The project will include the analysis, design and installation of algae prevention and mitigation technologies to the improve water quality in the waterbody prior to discharge downstream. As part of this project, a study will be completed to identify the aeration system or UV light system to be installed (supply/installation is also part of this project). The mitigation technologies will be installed directly in the waterbody to mitigate downstream impacts on the broader stormwater drainage system.
