Improving child survival and development, Phase III

The transitional aid measure Improving the chances of survival and development of children III builds on the experiences of the previous phases. The measure is embedded in the multi-sectoral UNICEF country program, which aims to improve the chances of survival of children and improve maternal health. A special focus is on the areas of reproductive health (promotion of pre- and post-natal examinations, professionally assisted births), HIV/AIDS (education, counseling and testing), nutrition (prevention and treatment of malnutrition) and WASH (improving access to clean drinking water and sanitation and improved hygiene behavior). The measures are aimed at ensuring basic health care in the health facilities in the project area and help to increase the use of health services and promote health-related behavior among the population. The activities primarily include small-scale rehabilitation measures, the procurement and provision of essential medicines and equipment for health facilities. In addition, education and awareness-raising measures in communities and schools as well as the training of health personnel, teachers and multipliers in the communities are planned. The direct target group includes children under five, primary school children, adolescents and pregnant and breastfeeding women. The relevant decentralized authorities and service providers are to be strengthened through improved monitoring and control instruments. In addition to the three project districts of the two previous phases, Mao, Moussoro and Bokoro, the project is also being implemented in the Mongo district in the Guéra region. The recipient of funding and sponsor of the project is UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund.
