Improving the survival and development of children

The measure is embedded in the UNICEF country program, which aims to improve the survival chances of children and maternal health. UNICEF is pursuing a multi-sectoral approach to increase preventive behavior among the population and the use of health services. The special focus is on the areas of reproductive health (promotion of prenatal and postnatal examinations, professionally assisted births), HIV/AIDS (education, counseling and testing), nutrition (prevention and treatment of malnutrition) and WASH (improving access to clean drinking water and sanitation facilities, improved hygiene behavior). The measures primarily include rehabilitation and equipment of health facilities, securing the water supply and building latrines in schools, procurement and provision of essential medicines, education and awareness-raising measures and training of health personnel.
