Description

Description

Core problem Water production, storage capacities and sanitation in the city of Timbuktu are currently insufficient to provide all residents with a continuous supply. The undersupply of Mali's population with hygienically safe drinking water and the inadequate availability of sanitation facilities also represent key obstacles to development for the Malian state in general. In Timbuktu, the city that symbolizes the entire structurally undersupplied north of Mali, the provision of adequate services in a key area of public supply also plays an important role in strengthening the legitimacy of state structures, which is necessary due to the crisis, and thus in creating stability and peace. Module objective The FC measure builds on the investment measures to expand water production and storage as well as the distribution network in Timbuktu and investment measures to improve sanitation as part of the first phase of the project. In addition to the increased level of supply, the aim of the project is also to make a contribution to stabilizing the north through visible state investments. Key outputs The project is expected to more than double water production in the city of Timbuktu and increase the connection rate from the current 63% to 80% in order to achieve a continuous water supply. Target group The project's target group is the rapidly growing total population of the city of Timbuktu with its approximately 63,000 inhabitants. Contribution to the national implementation of Agenda 2030 - No poverty - Clean water and sanitation - Sustainable cities and communities
