Description

Description

Core problem Water production, storage capacities and sanitation in the city of Timbuktu are currently insufficient to provide a continuous supply to all residents. The undersupply of Mali's population with hygienically safe drinking water and the inadequate availability of sanitation facilities also represent general key obstacles to development for the Malian state. Module objective The project aims to expand water production and storage by the municipal water supplier SOMAPEP in Timbuktu and implement investment measures to improve sanitation. In addition to increasing the level of supply, the project also aims to make a contribution to stabilizing the north through visible government investments. Key outputs The project will more than double water production in the city of Timbuktu and increase the connection rate from the current 63% to 80% in order to achieve a continuous water supply. Target group The project's target group is the rapidly growing total population of the city of Timbuktu with its approximately 63,000 inhabitants. Contribution to the national implementation of Agenda 2030 - No poverty - Clean water and sanitation - Sustainable cities and communities
