Description

Description

In Ex(ile) Lab is a two-year laboratory bringing together cultural organisations based in France, Italy, Cyprus and Portugal. It is aimed at testing tailored transdisciplinary integration paths in which artists in exile can grow as individuals and artists, in their host societies and the European space. It will adapt the existing tools of artistic support and use them as bedrock to prototype new ways of collaborating with artists. By doing so, In Ex(ile) Lab aims at gearing up professionals with the appropriate tools to create opportunities and make space for artists in exile. Building capacities of cultural organisations will contribute to increasing the participation of artists in exile in the European cultural and creative sectors, and renewing the approach of diversity in cultural spaces. A group of 12 selected artists will take part in a one-year program including both activities centred on creation and artistic practice (master class session, video creation workshops, cross-country production residencies, pitching session), and activities that cater to the need for information, contextualisation and individual support (webinar and mentorship program). This will be the occasion for artists to enhance their practice, achieve mobility and engage with new audiences and partners. In Ex(ile) Lab partners, a total of 10 cultural and social organisations, will adapt in real time their tools and methodologies of artistic support. They will also participate in professional meet-ups to gain a better understanding and account of the needs of artists in exile. Four artworks will be produced, as well as a curated catalogue presenting them. A toolkit aimed at cultural organisations looking to work with artists in exile will be released, in order to encourage them to appropriate tools and methodologies developed in the lab. Lastly, a website will be used as a platform to share contents related to the project, including short audio-visual objects produced by the artists.
