Inagua Sustainable Tourism

The broad project objective is to reduce outward migration from Inagua through creation of economic alternatives for Inagua residents. Inagua is of strategic concern to the Government of the Bahamas, given its location at the southern end of the Bahamas archipelago. Based upon an assessment conducted by TDI Corporation for the Government of the Bahamas and the IDB in 2004, sustainable tourism, focused on nature, birdwatching, sport fishing, and soft adventure, was identified as industry with significant growth potential. Working with the local community, a series of action plans was developed to exploit that potential. The objective of this project is to begin the implementation process, focused in the first phase primarily on microenterprise development, product development, investment promotion, and marketing.
