On September 19, Inca Rail launched rolling stock operations of a "tourist train" between Cusco and Machu Picchu a using the fixed assets operated by Fetransa (Ferrocarril Transandino)under a concession contract. In the first full year of operations (2010), Inca Rail estimated that their line would serve approximately 10% of the tourists bound for Machu Picchu and set the goal of increasing capacity to capture 20% in 2013. Inca Rail SAC was a company belonging to Crosland Tecnica SA a subsidiary of Parson & Crosland Ltd. [United Kingdom, 100%]. Inca Rail had a staff of 40 persons working in the company in 2009. Inca rail signed its contract with Ositran on August 31, 2009, officially authorizing the train to operate on the Cuzco-Machu-Piccu line. The project was awarded to Inca rail by the state regulator Ositran through a license scheme after Ositran completed reviewing Inca Rail’s proposal and its rolling stock for the legal and technical specifications necessary to operate. The concessionaire Fetransa is mandated to allow competition in rolling stock under the terms of its concession contract. The total project cost was not available at the start of operations. Capital expenditure will presumably increase as demand for the inca line increases. On September 19, 2009 the launching date of its contract, Inca rail had an operational train as well as a schedule of visits starting in September.
