Description

Description

As the importance of environment is increasingly recognized and the mandatory use of LNG, which is a pollution-free energy, is expanded to prevent environmental pollution, an environmentally friendly underground LNG storage tank with outstanding anti-seismic performance, with great scalability and no-exposure to the outside world was planned for the first time in Korea according to the long-term and stable domestic LNG supply and demand plan of the government. On October 1997, Hyundai E&C was the first in Korea to begin construction within the Incheon LNG production base of the client, Korea Gas Corporation. LNG is stored in a cryogenic tank at -162°C through a loading and unloading facility on an LNG tanker, transported by sea from abroad, and this LNG is again passed through a regasification facility that converts LNG liquid into gas by a delivery pump, goes through the national gas pipeline network, and then through the distribution network to be transported to each consumption sites.  Currently, among the eight domestic underground LNG storage tanks, two units 11 and 12, are Korea’s first 140,000 kilometer-capacity underground membrane tanks, which were completed on December, 2002 after jointly implementing the project with Japanese technical partners through a turnkey system.
