Description | "In Greece, Roma communities live in conditions of extreme marginalization, social exclusion, poverty and discrimination. Their integration into society remains a protracted and unresolved challenge. The main objective of the ""Inclusive Schools for Roma"" project is to address the specific need of Roma students for social inclusion by presenting a model of democratic and inclusive school development which is based on human rights principles and guidelines for intercultural learning. The project will work directly with Greek schools to support and address the education needs of Roma students. The project proposes the elaboration and implementation of an effective strategy for evolvement of the school into an inclusive environment, conductive to the successful integration of the Roma children and youth. The project proposes the development and implementation of the Inclusive School for Roma intervention which is comprised of the following three (3) distinct components: - the Inclusive School for Roma Guidelines, - the In-School Capacity Building activities, - the Educational Mediation component. A series of outputs and products will contribute to the effective delivery of the Inclusive School for Roma intervention, such as: - needs analysis reports for schools with Roma students, - the handbook Roma Inclusive Education Guidelines and the Mediators Guide, - the supplementary teaching and learning material [videos, handouts, presentations], - the mediators The ""Inclusive Schools for Roma"" project is expected to contribute to the capacity building of: - two hundred (200) teachers and education professionals [principals, administrative staff, assistants etc.] and - fifty (50) Roma Education Mediators In the context of the ""Inclusive Schools for Roma"" project a total of twenty (20) schools, throughout the country, will be selected, which will pilot the Roma Inclusive Schools approach, for one whole academic year." |
