Description
Description | The FC measures aim to improve the quality and training capacities in the field of biomedical engineering in particular. Through increased practical relevance and improved alignment with the needs of the health sector, the employment and income opportunities of the target groups will be increased, diagnosis and treatment options in the health sector will be improved and the education sector will be strengthened. The FC funding for the vocational school sector is intended to enable training in the field of biomedical engineering up to and including level 5, which corresponds to the German master craftsman's qualification, at the only two state vocational schools in Addis Ababa (Tegbarid Institute of Technology) and Kombolcha that offer vocational training in the field of biomedical engineering. At the same time, the training of vocational school teachers is to be improved. To this end, the Teachers Training Institute in Addis Ababa will outsource the training of teachers to Tegbarid College. This will enable vocational school teachers and trainees to benefit cost-effectively from the FC investments. This decentralization of teacher training (satellite concept) is already being established as part of FZ Phase 4 (BMZ No. 2014 67 125). In the area of higher education, an innovative combination of investment measures and education funding is intended to lead to a sustainable improvement in research and teaching in the field of biomedical engineering at the universities in Addis Ababa and Jimma. These are the only universities in Ethiopia that offer courses in the field of biomedical engineering. In addition to financing the equipment, a scholarship program is to be initiated and financed to improve access to the course and the study and research conditions at the two selected universities. Participants in the program are to be enabled to subsequently take up lecturer or professor positions, to conduct independent research and to acquire research funds. An internationally renowned university (consortium partner of the FZ Consultant) is to provide scientific support for the implementation of the FZ program. The key is to raise the level of training to international standards and to increase training capacities in the medium to long term. The integration of theoretical and practical training in the field of biomedical engineering will be improved by equipping training workshops in the teaching hospitals of the universities in Addis Ababa and Jimma. The explicit involvement of end users will improve the appropriate use of the equipment (service life, diagnosis). |
