Description

Description

The aim of the project is to contribute to increasing international trade and domestic and foreign investment in Ethiopia with a focus on the private sector. To this end, the project envisages direct capital payments into African Trade Insurance (ATI) to increase Ethiopia's capital reserves. African Trade Insurance (ATI) is a pan-African insurance agency with headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, which is over 85% owned and jointly managed by its member countries (from Africa, for Africa). ATI was founded in 2001 by seven East African countries with the support of the World Bank and the African Development Bank (AfDB). ATI's 32 shareholders currently include 20 African states and twelve institutional shareholders. ATI is registered with the United Nations as a multilateral organization. Its mandate is to promote African countries (especially its member states) through trade and foreign direct investment by offering competitive insurance solutions for commercial and political risks, reinsurance and contract guarantee insurance. The immediate target group of the project are investors, banks/financial institutions and trading companies from home and abroad (policyholders). The indirect target group includes employees of investors, banks/financial institutions and trading companies, Ethiopian (M)SMEs via financial intermediaries and their employees who indirectly benefit from ATI-insured transactions, as well as their economic partners, e.g. through the creation of jobs, increasing purchasing power and improving the range of goods and services, etc.
