India Coal Gasification Initiative

The Government of India has announced ambitious targets to achieve 100 million tonnes of coal gasification by 2030, with approved incentive support of approximately Rs 8,500 crore under various schemes to accelerate commercial deployment. The initiative focuses on coal gasification and coal-to-chemicals to enhance energy sovereignty, reduce import dependence, and strengthen industrial self-reliance. It includes development of integrated coal-to-chemicals hubs near major coalfields, prioritization of fertilizer and methanol production, establishment of national coal gasification technology centres, and adoption of advanced technologies and carbon management strategies.
