India National CCUS Roadmap and Infrastructure Development

India's Department of Science and Technology launched the first national R&D Roadmap for Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) on 2 December 2025, focusing on deployment phases through 2045. The roadmap includes foundational R&D, pilot projects, industrial integration, regulatory frameworks, and large-scale commercial CCUS deployment across industrial clusters. The Union Budget 2026-27 allocated ₹20,000 crore to support CCUS aligned with India's Net Zero by 2070 commitment. Key infrastructure projects include the first full-scale CCS pilot at the Gandhar oil field in Gujarat, CO2 storage test wells, and development of a National Storage Atlas. The roadmap emphasizes a hub-and-cluster model for shared CO2 transport and storage infrastructure to reduce costs and enable commercial viability.
