India Nuclear Capacity Expansion to 100 GW by 2047

India aims to scale up its nuclear power capacity from the current 8.8 GW to 100 GW by 2047, representing a roughly 12-fold expansion as part of the 'Viksit Bharat' vision. The expansion includes a mix of indigenous 700 MW pressurised heavy water reactors and reactors built through international cooperation, with capacity projected to reach around 22 GW by 2032. The project also involves policy reforms to allow private and foreign participation up to 49% equity in nuclear power projects under the SHANTI Act, 2025.
