India is planning a significant expansion and upgrade of its power transmission infrastructure to integrate renewable energy capacity. The project involves strengthening existing infrastructure, adding evacuation capacities, and creating new transmission routes to support generation centers. The government aims to evacuate power from over 900 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2035-36, including around 548 GW of solar and wind capacity. The investment opportunity is estimated at ₹5-6 trillion between 2026-27 and 2031-32, with an annual requirement of about 20,000 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and 120 gigavolt-amperes of sub-station capacity additions.
