Description
Description | India requires nearly Rs 80 lakh crore in urban infrastructure investment by 2037 to support rapid urbanisation and economic growth. The Urban Challenge Fund, a Rs 1 lakh crore central government-backed scheme, aims to shift urban financing from grant-based to market-based funding, encouraging urban local bodies to raise funds through municipal bonds, bank loans, or public-private partnerships. This model is expected to improve financial discipline, transparency, and creditworthiness of cities, especially Tier-II and Tier-III urban centres. Smaller urban centres may benefit from a Rs 5,000 crore Credit Repayment Guarantee Scheme. |
