Indiana Gas Tax Increase and Road Funding Overhaul

implemented and ongoing funding challenge

Indiana implemented a gas tax increase in 2017 to fund road and bridge improvements, which was well marketed due to poor road conditions at the time. However, the latest road funding overhaul faced marketing challenges as the roads are currently in good condition, making it difficult to show the need for funding to the public. This reflects a broader issue where 29 states are projected to fall short of maintaining roads and bridges in good repair over the next decade, prompting lawmakers to seek sustainable transportation funding solutions.
