Indianapolis Data Center Regulations

Indianapolis leaders have proposed new regulations on data centers addressing noise levels, energy use, and location. The regulations would create a special use district for data center developments, set maximum sound levels and heights, require minimum distances from protected areas, and mandate plans for managing water use, electricity, noise, and shutdown procedures. Developers must also submit utility capacity verification letters. The Metropolitan Development Commission is expected to approve the regulations on May 20, with a final vote by the Indianapolis City-County Council as early as July 6. Virtual information sessions are scheduled for April 28 and April 30 to gather community feedback.
