India is undertaking a major defense modernization project focusing on aerial dominance through AI-driven autonomous drones and directed-energy weapons. The project includes the development and acquisition of drones such as the Ghatak UCAV, medium transport aircraft, engine overhauls for Su-30s, remotely piloted strike aircraft, and the 'Mothership' UAV concept for drone swarms. The initiative is supported by Rs 2.38 lakh crore in Defense Acquisition Council approvals, aiming to shift from traditional heavy platforms to advanced combat capabilities with a focus on cost-effective drone warfare and directed-energy weapons.
