Description
Description | The ethanol blending programme in India began with pilot projects in 2001 under the Vajpayee government, mandating 5% ethanol blending in petrol across nine states and four Union Territories from 2003. The policy was expanded under the UPA government to cover 19 states and four Union Territories, with a directive to retail ethanol-blended petrol with up to 10% ethanol nationwide. The Modi government further pushed the policy by mandating 10% ethanol blending in 29 states and five Union Territories from 2019, and later authorized 20% ethanol blending (E20) with a rollout starting in December 2022. |
