India's First Barrier-Free Toll Plaza Under Multi-Lane Free Flow System

The Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), promoted by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), has signed an agreement with ICICI Bank to roll out the country’s first Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system. The project will debut at Choryasi Fee Plaza on NH-48 in Gujarat, making it India’s first barrier-free toll plaza. The MLFF system eliminates the need for vehicles to halt at toll booths by using RFID readers for FASTag and advanced number plate recognition cameras to ensure automatic toll deduction at highway speed. The system aims to reduce congestion, cut travel time, enhance fuel efficiency, lower emissions, and improve revenue collection. An agreement was also signed for implementing MLFF at Gharaunda Fee Plaza on NH-44 in Haryana, with plans to extend the system to about 25 plazas nationwide this financial year.
