India's First Geothermal Power Plant in Puga Valley

India has completed deep well drilling for its first geothermal power plant in Puga Valley, Ladakh. Two 1,000-meter-deep geothermal wells have been successfully drilled at an altitude of over 14,000 feet, marking a significant step towards constructing a 1 MW pilot geothermal power project. The project aims to support the vision of a carbon-neutral Ladakh by providing sustainable, round-the-clock renewable energy. The project overcame administrative delays and challenging geological conditions, with thermal activity recorded at 135°C at 400 meters depth.
