Description

Description

NTPC Limited has launched India's first-ever commercial deployment of hydrogen fuel cell buses in Leh, operating at the world's highest altitude. The project includes five hydrogen fuel cell buses handed over to Sindhu Infrastructure Development Corporation (SIDCO) for commercial operations as of June 18, 2025. It also features the world's first high-altitude hydrogen fueling station, powered by a 1.7 MW solar plant, ensuring 100% renewable energy supply to the buses. The buses are designed for sub-zero temperatures and rarefied atmosphere at 11,562 feet and use India's first high-pressure (350 bar) hydrogen dispensing system. The project aims to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 350 metric tonnes annually and produce 230 metric tonnes of pure oxygen, equivalent to planting 13,000 trees.
