Description | Indian Railways has approved a 10-car Hydrogen Fuel Cell-based trainset designed to run using hydrogen instead of conventional fossil fuels. The train is powered by a 1200 KW hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system and will operate on the Jind-Sonipat section of Northern Railway in Haryana. An indigenous hydrogen storage and refuelling facility has been set up at Jind for the project. The train will run at a maximum speed of 75 kmph. The project includes safety measures such as hydrogen leak detectors, flame detectors, 24x7 monitoring, trained personnel, and safety audits. This initiative aligns with Indian Railways' commitment to innovation, energy efficiency, and environmentally sustainable transportation, contributing to India's net-zero carbon emission goals. |
