Description
Description | The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) launched India's first hydrogen-powered shuttle bus service in Delhi's Central Vista area to promote clean mobility and green public transport. The service started on May 15, 2026, operating between the Central Secretariat Metro Station and the Seva Teerth Metro Station using two hydrogen fuel cell buses supplied by Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL). The buses use Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell technology with a 350-bar hydrogen storage system and a 70-kW fuel cell stack. Each 12-meter bus seats 35 passengers and is equipped with GPS tracking, CCTV, intelligent transport systems, electronic braking, and telematics for maintenance. The hydrogen is sourced from IOCL's hydrogen plant and refueled at their Hydrogen Refuelling Station (HRS). The buses are currently in a trial phase with all safety certifications met. The shuttle service operates weekdays with a frequency of one bus every 30 minutes, covering major government buildings and landmarks. DMRC manages operations and ticketing, while IOCL provides drivers and hydrogen fuel infrastructure. This is a joint initiative of DMRC, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. |
