Description | Indian Railways has approved the introduction of the country’s first hydrogen fuel cell-based train on the Jind-Sonipat section in Haryana. The 10-car trainset will be powered by a 1,200 KW hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system and is expected to begin operations soon with a maximum speed of 75 kmph. An indigenous hydrogen storage and refuelling facility has been set up at Jind for the pilot project, approved by the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation. The project includes several safety measures and trained technical staff will accompany the train during the initial phase of operations. |
