India's First Indigenous Hydrogen Train 'Namo Green Rail'

India's first-ever hydrogen-powered train, named 'Namo Green Rail', developed indigenously with the entire propulsion system and technology created in India. The train uses hydrogen fuel cell technology producing electricity through a chemical reaction using hydrogen, resulting in zero emissions. It has a 1200 kW hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system, approved to operate at a maximum speed of 75 kmph with a design speed of 110 kmph and a capacity of around 2,600 passengers. The project supports the National Green Hydrogen Mission and net-zero carbon emission goals, establishing infrastructure and institutional capacity for future hydrogen-powered rail operations.
