The Indian government acknowledged a 'worrisome' LPG situation and offered states an additional 10% commercial LPG allocation to incentivize a transition to piped natural gas (PNG). The government provided additional commercial LPG supplies to states tied to reforms such as expediting City Gas Distribution (CGD) approvals, reducing charges, and promoting PNG connections. Domestic LPG production increased by 40%, and cylinder delivery rates improved significantly. The government urged commercial LPG consumers in major cities to switch to PNG and requested states to facilitate CGD pipeline laying and permissions.
