India's Nationwide Used Oil Recycling Initiative

Re Sustainability and Indian Oil Corporation Limited have signed an MoU to establish India's first structured, nationwide initiative for the collection and recycling of used lubricating oil. The initiative aims to build a circular ecosystem for lubricant management, reduce dependence on virgin crude-derived base oils, conserve natural resources, and lower foreign exchange outflows. A dedicated Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) will be established to develop a nationwide reverse logistics network for used oil collection and support advanced re-refining infrastructure. The project also includes recovery and recycling of plastic lubricant containers in alignment with India's Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations.
