India is expanding its nuclear power program to strengthen energy security and support clean economic growth. The program includes operating 24 nuclear reactors with a total capacity of 8.78 GW, constructing 10 more reactors with 8,000 MW capacity, and pre-project activities for 10 additional reactors. The program uses Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors, Boiling Water Reactors, and Light Water Reactors, primarily fueled by natural uranium. The recent India-Australia Civil Nuclear Cooperation Agreement enables long-term exports of Australian uranium to India, ensuring a steady fuel supply for these reactors and supporting India's goal of 100 GW nuclear capacity by 2047.
