India's total installed power generation capacity has reached 505,023 MW as of October 31, 2025, with over 50% from non-fossil fuel sources. The government is taking steps to achieve 500 GW of non-fossil capacity by 2030, including waivers of inter-state transmission charges for solar, wind, and green hydrogen projects, issuing standard bidding guidelines for renewable energy projects, permitting 100% FDI under the automatic route, expanding transmission through the Green Energy Corridor, solar parks, and ultra mega solar power projects, implementing a Production Linked Incentive scheme for solar PV modules, and nuclear expansion plans targeting 100 GW nuclear capacity by 2047 with a Rs 20,000 crore Nuclear Energy Mission.
